worm'skiller Le roi de la petit côte | https://ebike-mtb.com/en/best-emtb-group-test-review/ Our eMTB recommendation for heavy riders We keep on getting emails from our readers with questions about the total weight limit of individual bikes that we’ve reviewed. For this test, we compared the limits of all the bikes and found some significant differences. Leading the charge is the Specialized Turbo Kenevo Expert and Giant Reign E+ 0 Pro. The Giant has a total weight limit of 156 kg and a resulting payload of 131 kg. The Giant achieves this with a double seat clamp, 220 mm brake rotors and tires with the robust Doubledown carcass. The Kenevo is designed to take on big bellies and big drops. With a maximum payload of 136 kg and dual crown forks, it’s made to follow the call of gravity. The good-natured Cannondale accepts a payload of up to 125 kg and the fun YT DECOY will take a maximum payload of 127 kg. Both are good alternatives to the Giant. Unfortunately on both bikes, you’ll first have to change the tires for more robust models before taking them on rough terrain. The maximum payload of most other bikes on test is between 100 and 120 kg. Heavier riders are advised to ask their local dealer about the total weight limit of the bike before buying. However, it has to be said that these weight restrictions primarily serve as legal safeguards for manufacturers and always assume a worst case scenario. worm'skiller Le roi de la petit côte | https://ebike-mtb.com/en/the-best-emtb-motor/4/ Bosch Performance Line CX 2020 After a long excruciating wait, both bike manufacturers and consumers can breathe a sigh of relief: the new Bosch Performance Line CX has finally been released. But have the problems of the previous model been fixed? In a nutshell, the latest incarnation of the Bosch Performance Line CX does everything better than its predecessor – well, almost! On the trail, the new 75 Nm motor impresses with top-class modulation and delivers enough power to comfortably steam past its older brother, as well as the Shimano STEPS. If that wasn’t enough, on steep climbs the new Bosch keeps up with our test winner, the Brose Drive S Mag, without any problems. The absolute highlight of the new Performance CX is the newly tuned eMTB mode: the progressive mode modulates dynamically between the Tour and Turbo modes and adjusts the support according to the riding scenario and the amount of pressure you put on the pedals. The new mode is incredibly accurate, smooth and easy to control and always delivers enough power. In other words, no other motor in the test field feels as effortless and controlled on technical uphills as the Bosch Performance Line CX 2020! Bosch have also revised the Turbo mode, which is now easier to control and is a lot more sensitive on startup. The transition at the 25 km/h threshold is smooth and silky. But what about the notorious pedal resistance though? Well, there isn’t any! However, the new Bosch does have a bit of a noise problem – not the typical noise of the motor humming under full load, but the coarse-toothed freewheel-clutch that produces a clunky metallic sound when it engages and sounds almost like a clattering chain on rough downhills. As a result, eMTBs with a 2020 Bosch CX will be louder than most Shimano or Brose bikes, on the downhill. And that sucks, because we all know how good a quiet bike feels! Brose Drive S Mag Mag stands for magnesium, which is what the housing of Brose’s newest drive is constructed from. This makes the motor relatively light and compact, especially considering the power it delivers. But what is the magnesium version of Brose popular drive capable of? By the way, the new Drive S Mag is the motor fitted to our “2019 high-end eMTB” test winner! On the trail, even the most powerful version of the popular “Made in Berlin” motor convinced us with a remarkably natural ride feeling. The Brose Drive S Mag works smoothly both from a standstill and at the 25 km/h threshold, where the motor gradually reduces its power. Despite its refined character, it delivers sufficient power even on startups with low support levels. Even on challenging terrain, the rear wheel won’t spin out of control. In the highest support level – Flexpower mode – the motor offers 410 % support and leaves behind all other motors on climbs – except for TQ’s HPR 120S drive. Depending on the specific firmware configuration of each manufacturer, Flexpower mode can deliver its full power naturally or unleash it abruptly with a sudden burst of power — where the second option feels rather unnatural. With the Brose Drive S Mag, we didn’t notice any pedalling resistance. These characteristics combined with a very low noise level make for the most natural riding experience in the entire test field. Shimano STEPS E8000 Shimano’s STEPS E8000 is recognized as one of the top motors in the eMTB sector. It comes as no surprise that 8 out of the 14 bikes in our 2019 high-end eMTB group test feature this exact drive. From the display to the battery, through to the motor, Shimano’s STEPS system is well thought-out, superbly integrated and very intuitive. But did its riding characteristics manage to impress our demanding test-crew on the trail? The STEPS E8000 is Shimano’s top-of-the-range motor for trail riding. It churns out 70 Nm of torque and offers three individually-adjustable riding modes that can be adapted via the E-TUBE app. In its standard configuration, the progressive trail mode offers the most controlled and natural riding experience. The motor recognizes the intensity of your pedal strokes and adjusts the level of support accordingly. Depending on the basic setup (programmable via the App), this mode allows for all support-levels from Eco to Boost. This means one minute you could be cruising down a flat forest path and the next you’re blasting up a steep climb, all using the same mode. The only drawback is the loud humming noise when the motor is under load. In the strongest mode – Boost – the motor churns out tons of power at medium to high cadences. Unfortunately, the power delivery is not always easy to control. In Boost mode and at low speeds the motor can make the bike jolt forward. At low cadences the motor also runs out of steam on steep climbs. Once you reach the 25 km/h threshold, the motor reduces its support rather abruptly and after disengaging, you can feel a little pedalling resistance.

The Specialized Turbo Levo Comp – the alternative to the best all-rounder for those with a smaller bank balance The winner of our big group test is the versatile Specialized S-Works Turbo Levo. It offers outstanding technical features, is suitable for all types of riders and is considered the benchmark in terms of riding fun. But it is also incredibly expensive at € 11,499! The alternative costs over € 5,000 less. The Specialized Turbo Levo Comp comes with an aluminium frame but it also has a 700 Wh battery, little to criticise regarding spec and is priced at € 6,199: € 5,300 less than the flagship model. The Levo Comp even has one advantage over the S-Works: it comes with aluminium rims. That means you won’t immediately write them off if you hit a rock at speed and will usually come away with nothing more than a dent. The aluminium model is specced with SRAM Guide RE brakes and 200 mm rotors. The SRAM GX 11-speed drivetrain is standard on all Levo models. You get a 150 mm dropper post on sizes M and L and suspension is taken care of by a RockShox Deluxe Select+ shock and a RockShox Lyrik Select RC fork. For 2020, Specialized opted against the less stiff PIKE. If you long for even better performance from the fork, you have the option of retrofitting a higher-end damper. The Specialized Turbo Levo Comp is the perfect alternative to the flagship model if you want to save money, but not at the cost of performance. However, you’ll have to learn to live with the increased weight.
