Yes, what is your point, here? I said that a lot of people here think they're bilingual, then I said that I don't consider myself bilingual but almost fluent, but since I speak english more fluently than some people who consider themselves bilingual, they just consider I should say I am bilingual... which I'm not.

When asked during job interviews, I say I'm almost fluent. That allows the guy to feel superior, thinking "ha, I'm gonna trick her, then"... and most of the time, he ends up surrendering, asking me "why don't you say you are bilingual?" "Because I wasn't raised in an english speaking country nor by english speaking parents, therefore I am far from being bilingual"...

i was raised in an english speaking country and my native language (or mother tongue? i never know which one to use) is english, but I then came here in Belgium (@ about 4 years old), growed up in a French-only speaking life, and almost totally forgot my english. My parents often told me that the last time they heard me speaking english was when I said "oouaaaah, the big wave!!!!" a couple of seconds before being smashed by it. :D

It never came back after then.

*sorry for my poor english* (this is my signature on almost every english net-forums [:thisisnotmyfault])

a pity? why? :( It is much easier to learn english than french, believe me! ;)

I know my english is not perfect (re-learned on the web and during some vacations) but I can live with that. My clients and non-french-speaking-friends understand me, and I could easily spend my life in an english-speaking country.

But, I have to agree, I miss San Francisco a little bit... :/

A pity as in "c'est dommage"... :) Having english speaking parents and ending with a non bilingual level, it's quite a waste...
My cousins are half French and half American, their parents do their best to help them acquire a mothertongue level in both languages. It's not always easy, but they're pretty successful...

that's so cliché ! English fundamentals are quite easy to acquire, but when it comes to really master the language, I'd say than they're more or less of equal difficulty.
