A police officer in North Charleston, S.C. named Michael Slager shot and killed 50-year-old Walter Scott. While the Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin cases were controversial, Scott did not engage the officer or commit a violent crime. The worst Scott had was an A&B charge from 1987. Scott fled from the police officer because he has child support debt that he is unable to pay and did not want to go to what is essentially debtor's jail. After Slager failed to tase Scott and Scott began to run, which is at a very sluggish pace when one sees the video, Slager unloaded 8 shots on Scott and killed him.
Scott was unarmed. Best part? Slager claimed that Scott had taken his taser, but you can clearly see the taser being dropped (after it failed to subdue Scott) before Scott flees and is shot and killed. Then the police officer PICKS UP THE TASER AND THEN DROPS IT BY SCOTT'S BODY.
The police officer is being charged with murder and I hope he gets the death penalty.
