The laid-back feel of the album attracted the attention of other major artists. For example, Eric Clapton cites the album's roots rock style as what convinced him to quit Cream, and engage Delaney and Bonnie and friends as "Derek and the Dominos" on his debut solo album. George Harrison was also impressed by the album's musicianship and sense of camaraderie, and Roger Waters of Pink Floyd called it the second "most influential record in the history of rock and roll", after the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and said that it "affected Pink Floyd deeply, deeply, deeply". According to Terry Burrows, the album spawned the Americana genre, while music academic Chris Smith said its songs laid the groundwork for roots rock music. The music writer Ian MacDonald called it "...the most influential record of its time – probably the most influential in rock history", citing its influence on the Beatles, Elton John, Traffic, Fairport Convention, the Byrds, the Grateful Dead, Little Feat, and 1970s country rock in general

Speaking to Uncut in 2026, Elton John and Bernie Taupin both cite The Band’s debut studio album, Music From Big Pink, as the driving impetus behind them writing Tumbleweed Connection. John said Big Pink “changed our lives,” adding, “It changed the way we wrote songs, the way we listened to songs. We’ve always loved Americana, but The Band gave Americana a new twist. It was like Bob Dylan with funky soul. Big Pink was just an amazing record.”

Springsteen n'a pas été en reste :

Bruce on Levon Helm from "The Band " : After the passing of Levon Helm, Bruce did tribute to Helm by covering " the weight " telling how he influenced him, joking that when he auditioned drummer Max Weinberg that he made him sing. "He was one of the greatest, greatest voices in country, rockabilly and rock & roll," Bruce said of Helm. "Levon's voice and drumming was so incredibly versatile. He had a feel on the drums ... it comes out of a certain place in the past and you can't replicate it."
Bruce also partipated in the documentary 'Once Were Brothers' saying:
"There is no band that emphasizes becoming greater than the sum of its parts than the Band," Springsteen says in the trailer. "Simply their name: the Band. That was it." The documentary provides the Band’s history, from their days backing Bob Dylan to their breakout debut album, Music From Big Pink to that all-star farewell concert. The film itself, out February 21st 2020, employs rare archival footage, photographs from the era, the Band’s music, and interviews with Robertson, as well as Springsteen, Clapton, Scorsese, Van Morrison, and others.
In a 1974 interview , Springsteen says that Hazy Davy's character out of 'Spirit in the night' was partly inspired by Little John, the character of ' the moon struck one' by The Band.
