Currently, the Ivy League institutions are estimated to admit 10% to 30% of each entering class using legacy admissions. For example, in the 2008 entering undergraduate class, the University of Pennsylvania admitted 41.7% of legacies who applied during the early decision admissions round and 33.9% of legacies who applied during the regular admissions cycle, versus 29.3% of all students who applied during the early decision admissions round and 16.4% of all who applied during the regular cycle.

In 2009, Princeton admitted 41.7% of legacy applicants—more than 4.5 times the 9.2% rate of non-legacies.

Similarly, in 2006, Brown University admitted 33.5% of alumni children, significantly higher than the 13.8% overall admissions rate. In 2003, Harvard admitted 40% of legacy applicants, compared to the overall 11% acceptance rate. In short, Ivy League and other top schools typically admit legacies at two to five times their overall admission rates

Moi ça me choque pas :spamafote:
L'utilité de ces établissements (outre la formation) c'est de se faire un carnet d'adresses et objectivement tu as intérêt à ce que ton voisin d'amphi soit un fils à papa  :jap: (enfin dans le cas de l'article c'est plus des filles à maman)

Two-Pizza Teams: The Science Behind Jeff Bezos' Rule

Citation :

Bezos believes that no matter how large your company gets, if you can’t feed a team with two pizzas, it’s too large. That limits a team to two to five people (depending on their appetites and diets and assuming they didn't skip breakfast).

The reasoning behind it is quite straightforward. More people = more of everything. More coordination, more bureaucracy, more chaos – basically, everything that slows things down. Individual performance suffers and people become less engaged.

Human Contact Is Now a Luxury Good

Citation :

The rich do not live like this. The rich have grown afraid of screens.
They want their children to play with blocks, and tech-free private schools are booming.
Humans are more expensive, and rich people are willing and able to pay for them.
Conspicuous human interaction — living without a phone for a day, quitting social networks and not answering email — has become a status symbol.

Citation :

Today, he said, the opposite is true: “If you’re truly at the top of the hierarchy, you don’t have to answer to anyone.
They have to answer to you.”

Citation :

Facebook is the same Facebook whether you are rich or poor. Gmail is the same Gmail. And it’s all free.
There is something mass market and unappealing about that.

Citation :

In Silicon Valley, time on screens is increasingly seen as unhealthy.
Here, the popular elementary school is the local Waldorf School, which promises a back-to-nature, nearly screen-free education.

The human cost of insulin in America

Citation :

"I was spending $2,880 a month just to keep myself alive - that was more than I was making even working 50 hours a week," says Ms Marston.

Citation :

Ms Marston has been tracking insulin list prices for years.
By her calculations, for insulin alone, she'll need close to $7m to live until she's 70 if she pays out of pocket.

Citation :

Eli Lilly's spokesman says their net price has actually gone down in the last five years; Sanofi's said their insulin profits are 25% lower in 2019 than 2012.

In fact, Labrouste/Houellebecq declares,
“Money had never rewarded work, it had absolutely nothing to do with it, no human society had ever been built on compensation for work, and not even the communist society of the future was supposed to rest on such foundations … money went to money and accompanied power: that was the ultimate principle of social organization.”

Hard Work Will Not Get Your Country out of Poverty

Citation :

There is a strong relationship between productivity and annual working hours per worker.
More work is not needed to produce more.
However, to achieve greater productivity a second factor is necessary: capital. Worker productivity improves with technology or better production techniques.
To have access to both, capital assistance—both physical and human—is necessary.

Citation :

Yet many countries managed to get rid of their poverty traps in the last 200 years through hard work and saving.
This means that many generations that resigned to consume all of their present production and decided to save in order to have a better future.
These savings were then invested by disruptive entrepreneurs and innovators who created value.
Finally, this capital increased the productivity of the following generations and gave way to the quality of life that we see in first world countries.
This is why salaries in these countries are higher than in less developed countries and why less labor is needed in these countries.
