Bonjour, vous serait-il possible de corriger ce texte que je présenterai lors d'une importante présentation d'anglais... je le mettrai en deux fois... merci infiniment à l'avance!!!
Poverty in AFRICA
What is poverty?
Poverty is the inability to afford opportunities, essential and basic human needs, such as pure and fresh water, healthcare, education, nutrition, clothing and shelter. Nearly 1.7 billion people in the world live in absolute poverty.
Today we are going to speak about poverty on a precise continent. Where do you think poverty affects the most of population?
In Africa and more exactly in south africa
Poverty and his figures
The number of poor people unable to eat, go to school or to have pure water is disastrous
One in six children die before the age of 5. This number is 25 times higher in sub-Saharan Africa than in the OECD countries
Moreover imagine that 1 child dies every 4 seconds
Only 57% of African children are enrolled in primary education, and only one of three children complete school
300 million Africans did not have access to safe water
The average life expectancy in Africa is 41 years
Causes of poverty
Can you find and tell us what can be the main causes of poverty in Africa?
….
Unfortunately, poverty in Africa doesn't result from just one or two causes.
These countries are mostly isolated from the rest of the world,
Since African countries cannot advance technology, the amount of agricultural as well a production will be curtailed (réduit) and it will have an impact on their income, employment and economy.
One of the main cause is:
The war: in countries such as Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya religious war has been worsening the famine situation there. It is estimated that less than one per cent of what the world spends every year on weapons is sufficient to put every child on the planet into school, yet nothing is being done seriously about this global issue (??)
A second main causes is also the lack of access to clean drinking water.
Nearly one billion people do not have access to clean, safe water - that’s the equivalent of 1 in 8 people on the planet!
Without clean water, the possibility of breaking out of the cycle of poverty is incredibly slim.
With unclean water sources are miles from villages, many of Africans are forced to spend hours each day finding and transporting water. The typical container used for water collection in Africa, the jerry can, weighs over 18 kg when it's completely full. And some women carry even more, up to 31 kg in a barrel carried on the back.
Another cause is poor farm policy
The agriculture sector accounts for about 60% of African workers. 3/5 of them are farmers, trying to feed their family. The rest work for large multinational industrial farms, or labor on huge export-crop (culture d’exportation) fields.
It is not just that the countries cannot feed their own people but that they have no power in the trade cycle. many countries produce and sell these goods and only a few of developed countries buy the products, it is the buyers who can decide what price they pay.
• Economy: The governments of many developing countries are often unstable. Africa's natural resources have also been mostly monopolised by European and American companies largely (en grande partie) taking money out of Africa.
• Lack of education is a major cause of poverty. Africans are unable to have access to education. In many African countries the children have to pay rent of their own desks and seats. So many children are unable to attend school because they can’t afford (avoir les moyens d’acheter qqch ) it and others have to stay at home because they have to work to help their families
• Natural disasters (Droughts, earthquakes,)
• unemployment
