GOALKEEPERS  
 
Jerzy Dudek 6.5: Hero of the final but a spectator in some other key games. Fumbled some really key shots and positioning has been questionable in some games.  
 
Chris Kirkland 5: Didn’t really play in many games and didn’t leave much impression on most of the little games he did play in.  
 
Scott Carson 5.5: was thrown into a huge quarter finals with Italian champions juventus for his debut and performed beyond his age. One for the future.  
 
DEFENDERS
 
Josemi 5: came up north with a reasonable reputation. has probably not played as many games as he would like to but nevertheless, hasn’t shown too much to impress. may be better as he approaches his second season and deepens his understanding of the English game.  
 
Steve Finnan 6.5: was deployed as a right midfielder earlier in the season and performed well scoring in some games as well. was reasonably able when called upon as right back.  
 
Djimi Traore 6.5: has had a true transformation in fortunes. was given more confidence by Benitez and because of that, he really shined in some key games. However, his season will still be remembered for that incredible own goal against Burnley.  
 
Sami Hyypia 7.5: along with Carragher was a rock in the Liverpool defence. played with much improvement from last season and has rediscovered his consistency again. very firm and hard player with terrific aerial ability.  
 
Jamie Carragher 8.5: what a fantastic season for the local kid. was imperious for the Liverpool back four. displayed grit and determination and great courage throughout the season. was ever present and was truly fantastic in the games against juve, chelsea and milan. simply fantastic.  
 
Mauricio Pellegrino 4.5: very average. still, did what he was required to which was to provide cover for hyypia and carragher. this allowed them some rest in some premiership games.  
 
MIDFIELDERS  
 
Xabi Alonso 8: a lot is asked about what liverpool’s season might have been if had he been around those few months he was injured. such a classy distributor of the ball. supremely calm and has that terrific ability of being in control of the game. has such great abilities to set the tempo of any match with his ability to control the game and also to suddenly hasten the pace by releasing his quicker team-mates with flawless passes.  
 
Steven Gerrard 8.5: like carragher, the captain of Liverpool is the heart and soul of the team. so often drawing on his reserves to propel the team forward. has on so many occasions brought life back to the team simply by being the powerful, determined character that he is. has took on a more advanced role this season and has scored some majestic goals throughout.  
 
Luis Garcia 7.5: has a habit of drifting in and out of a game but always seems to be in the right place at the right time. very intelligent player and has provided Liverpool with the width they really needed last season.  
 
Harry Kewell 5: disappointing season. still looks to have some potential to be the player he was. lets give him a chance here.  
John Arne Riise 7.5: thunderbolt of a player, he has been in as many games as carragher. great, hardnosed player with a magnificent shot. has scored more this season.  
 
Igor Biscan 6: improved. saved Liverpool on several occasions including that much needed win against deportivo.  
 
DIdi Hamann 7.5: calm influence. great destroyer as he showed magnificently in the Milan game. good free kick specialist as well.  
 
John Welsh 5: huge potential ahead. started in some games to allow steven gerrard some rest throughout the season.  
 
Nunez 5.5: still coping to get a true fell of the english game. has not shown too much ability but has also suffered many injriues.  
 
Le Tallec 5: called back and played in some important moments for liverpool.  
 
Vladimir Smicer 4.5: besides the Milan moments, didnt really play too much to impress.  
 
FORWARDS/ STRIKERS  
 
Milan Baros 7: has had to hold the fort much of the season. did not really live up to the expectations of being the euro 2004 top scorer and didn’t really take full advantage of the void left by owen’s departure. still, he possesses good speed and dribbling skills.  
 
Cisse 6.5: season wrecked by injury. still, has played well everytine he was called upon. will be even better next season.  
Morientes 7: good holder and header of the ball. will be very important for Liverpool next season.  
 
Sinama 6.5: came in to provide Liverpool with much needed attacking options in the early parts of the season. played well in some games.  
 
Mellor 6: a good typical English forward. good holder and header of the ball. good backup striker.
