GALA-NET’S UPSHIFT STRIKERACER NOW LIVE
 
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Sept. 13, 2007 – Lead foot and trigger happy gamers can now access all of the frenzied and explosive excitement of Gala-Net’s high-octane free-to-play online multiplayer game Upshift StrikeRacer as the service goes live today.  To sign up for and download Upshift StrikeRacer for free, head to the game’s official Web site at http://strikeracer.gpotato.com.  
 
Upshift StrikeRacer is a free-to-play multiplayer online game, where the client download is free and many of the vehicles, body kits, accessory kits, weapons, finishes and special items can be bought only with the Reputation you generate by StrikeRacing.  Players hit the road in explosive races where machine guns flare, rockets fly and a quick trigger finger is just as important as a lead foot and a steady steering wheel.
 
Extending the game to the Web, Upshift StrikeRacer now also offers Upshift StrikeRacer Clubs, the most robust community tools available in a free-to-play game.  Players can form Clubs, network with friends, upload and share photos, share blogs, run polls and forums and keep track of in-game rankings and points. Each individual Club can have up to 50 members, and Clubs can align with other Clubs to create a guild-like network of up to 250 players each.  In addition, Clubs and their allies can declare war on other Clubs.  More information on Upshift StrikeRacer Clubs, which can be created by any StrikeRacer who is at least Level 10, can be found at http://upshift.gpotato.com.

• Foobillard

Foobillard FooBillard is a free billard game for linux using OpenGL and comes with realistic physics for a great billard experience. Many game types are available such as Pool, Carambol, Snooker, Eight and Nine ball, wich can be played against an AI player. Additional features are the configurable table style, reflection on the balls, 3D sterheo view, sound and even network play.  

• gl-117

gl-117 is an action flight simulator for Linux/Unix and MSWindows. Enter the Eagle Squadron and succeed in several challanging missions leading though different landscapes.
Five predefined levels of video quality and an amount of viewing ranges let you perfectly adjust the game to the performance of your system. Joystick, mouse, sound effects, music...  

• Glest

Glest is a real time strategy game which is freely available. The game is settled in an ancient world, where technological and magic factions compete with each other.
The player can take part in the game as either party and play against up to three opponents. Selection of terrains and tilesets and the grouping of different teams enable you to set up a variety of scenarios. As known from other rts games, you start at a home site with a few basic units. They are used to gather first resources (harvest lumber, mine ore) or create new buildings. Also few combat units are initially provided, to defend the village or scout the area. While proceeding an increasing number of different units becomes awailable and new types of buildings can be constructed.

The challenge of this game is to have eye on your resources, to defend your base against opponent encroachments and build up a force to defeat your enemies at the same time. Therefor different types of ground units and air units are available. Featuring advanced graphics and skillfully designed units and terrains glest does not need to hide from commercial games. Glest offers a single player mode so far, while multiplayer support is planned and will be added as soon as possible.  

• Neverball

Neverball is a 3D platform game. The main gameplay of Neverball is based on moving a ball using gravity by tilting the game world, not directly controlling the ball. The mouse, keyboard, or joystick tilt the level to help guide the ball to a goal, via an obstacle course, with a set time limit. Moving platforms and other crazy objects get in the way, making levels progressively harder.
To unlock the goal on each level, the player must collect a required amount of coins. Coins come in three different colors: yellow, red and blue. Red coins are worth 5 yellows and blue coins are worth 10 yellows. Collecting 100 coins gains an extra life.  

• Nexuiz

Nexuiz is a completely free 3D first-person shooter game. It uses DarkPlaces wich is a highly modified version of the well known Quake engine.
It is based on quick and hard battles with well balanced waepons which made the FPS genre that successful. You can fight online or against bots with currently 9 weapons on 24 nice designed maps in a futuristic style.
It has lot's of graphical effects like coronas, bloom, dynamic lighting, shaders and HDR rendering to offer that may be configured in order to get the best results out of your high-end hardware.
Although Nexuiz's focus on multiplayer gaming it offers a singleplayer campaign for lonely nights when your ISP seems to take a break again. ;-)  

• Sauerbraten

Sauerbraten (a.k.a. Cube 2) is a free multiplayer/singleplayer first person shooter, built as a major redesign of the Cube FPS.
Much like the original Cube, the aim of this game is not necessarily to produce the most features and eyecandy possible, but rather to allow map/geometry editing to be done dynamically in-game, to create fun gameplay and an elegant engine.  

• Torcs

Torcs is a free 3d car racing game. It includes more than a dozen cars and numerous tracks. You can drive against opponents or against the clock. You can chose single races or championchips. Up to four players can compete against each other at one PC. The difficulty can be varied my many options like manual or automatic gear. With its realistic physics model the game offers great fun for generations.  

• Tremulous

Tremulous started like World of Padman as a Q3 modification, and got standalone when ID-Software published the Q3's code under GPL. It's about the war between Aliens and Humans (as known from Alien vs. Predator). Thus when you join a game, you have to choose whether to join the alien fraction or to save the humans from beeing defeated. But it is much more than just a Shooter, you have to build and improve your base to prevent the enemy from overrunning your team. Additionally there is a cleverly worked out leveling system, so the more experience you have, the better weapons you get.  

• Ufo:ai

Ufo: Alien Invasion is a squad-based tactical strategy game in the tradition of the old X-COM PC games.  

• Wesnoth

Wesnoth is a very popular turn-based strategy game played on a hexgrid, with single-player campaigns as well as multi-player matches. A central philosophy in the design of the game is the KISS principle; for a new idea to be accepted, it should not complicate gameplay.
Each unit has its own strengths and weaknesses. A unit's defense is based solely on the type of terrain it stands on, making terrain and placement of units very important. Different types of attacks (such as melee and ranged), weapon types (such as pierce and fire), and a day-night cycle that alternately favors lawful and chaotic units add to the strategy. Throughout the campaigns units can advance to higher level counterparts and become more powerful. Part of the fun of the game is developing a personalised army of advanced units as a campaign progresses.  

• Warsow

Warsow - Since eSports is a common part in nowadays spare time activities, an international team of developers and artists is working on the warsow game. Warsow is an eSports oriented first person shooter (FPS), focusing in fast paced gameplay, movement and trick jumps.

The hardware requirements are fair since gameplay is important, not eye candy. Warsow runs fluently even on older computers. The game offers six different multiplayer game types, a single player mode is not available. Depending on the gametype up to seven different weapons can be chosen. Power-ups like different types of shields and health items can be found aswell as a stronger type of ammunition for each of the collected weapons. Each gametype can be switched to instagib mode.  

• Warzone2100

Warzone2100 is a real-time strategy game, in many significant aspects compareable to Earth2150, it does contain some features that are unique. These include various radar technologies, a greater focus on artillery and counter-battery technologies, more frequent in-game cinematic updates as gameplay progress, as well as a different vehicle design method. The game was released in 1999 for both PC and Playstation® and was released under GPL in late 2004.
It offers a singleplayer campain and a network multiplayer mode.  

• World of Padman

World of Padman is a colorful comic style first person shooter started as Q3 modification, which became a standalone game in April 2007. This fondly styled game demonstrates, how fast paced shooter action can be managed without blood and dark ambience.

No really, it's free. It's completely standalone. We encourage you to try out both the original C&C: Red alert and C&C: Renegade however, but you don't need either to hop in and start playing online or over a LAN.

Intent Software’s free MMORPG Astonia goes live

Hamburg, September 19, 2007. Intent Software officially launches the new Astonia® world named Urd. During the one month beta test Astonia attracted 10.000 registered players. Astonia is free to play. Players can upgrade to paid premium accounts, which offer even more game features.

The game world formerly known as Astonia 3 will now be known as the “Hel” server. Urd and Hel are names from ancient Norse mythology.
