CZECHIA ELIMINATES RUSSIAN POLITICAL CORRUPTION NETWORK TARGETING 6 EUROPEAN COUNTRIES
Yesterday, Czech Counter-Intelligence Agency (BIS) publicly exposed a network run by Russia for influencing European Parliament elections across multiple countries. Czech government sanctioned two individual and one entity (a pro-Russian website).
Here is what leading Czech investigative journalist @zdislavapokorna reported:
- „Cash was being handed over to anti-establishment politicians from Germany or Belgium in Prague, while other funds were directed towards the operation of a pro-Russian news website.“
- „The primary players in the influence network, according to counterintelligence, were two Ukrainian businessmen and politicians with close ties to Russia – Viktor Medvedchuk and his close associate Artem Marchevsky.“
- „Politicians from other European countries received payment, it concerns a total of six European Union states,“ clarified a source close to Czech Foreign Ministry. Specifically, politicians from Germany, France, Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Hungary are involved. According to information from Deník N, the case involves, among others, the German far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD).“
