Portsmouth boss Alain Perrin is looking to offload strikers Aleksandar Rodic and Diomansy Kamara before the new season gets underway. Slovenia international Rodic only arrived at Fratton Park from HIT Gorica in January, but has failed to adapt to English football and started just one Premiership game last term. The 24-year-old has now linked up with Metz for a trial in the hope of securing a move to France. Meanwhile, Pompey are reported to be in talks with Modena about the return of record signing Kamara. Portsmouth agreed to pay a club record £2.2million for the Senegal international last summer, with the fee due to be paid in instalments. There is still more than £1million outstanding on the deal, but Pompey are believed to have offered Modena the chance to take the player back in return for the remainder of the fee being written off. The 24-year-old was a major disappointment last season, scoring just four times in 25 Premiership outings.

Lyon midfielder Michael Essien remains confident he will get his move to Chelsea this summer, despite the French champions rejecting the latest offer from their English counterparts. Blues chief executive Peter Kenyon held talks with Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas earlier in the week, without being able to persuade him to sell the Ghanaian. Lyon coach Gerard Houllier subsequently hinted a deal could be agreed that would see Essien spend another season at Stade de Gerland before moving to London, but the player expects to be transferred in the near future. "I do not think Lyon will shut the door," the 22-year-old told France Football. "I am confident both clubs will reach an agreement. One of the greatest clubs in the world want me. How do you want me to refuse this? Had it not been Chelsea, I would probably stay at Lyon. I am now confident the issue will be resolved." Meanwhile, Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez has confirmed he spoke to Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho before agreeing to sign a new long-term deal with the Catalan giants. "I knew nothing of an offer, just that there was contact between Ivan (Corretja, Xavi's agent) but nothing like what was built up in the press," Xavi said. "I did speak several times with Mourinho but that was because I have a good relationship with him and we met in the Champions League as well as a game between the national side and England in Madrid. But of an offer, nothing."
