Power Pulse Cold Air Intake
1994-97 Miata
The forced air concept became popular in the sixties as witnessed by the many examples of hood scoops and ducts. The Racing Beat Power Pulse Cold Air Intake offers a simple and elegant solution to supplying your Miata with the forced air needed for improved combustion. We had two other objectives when designing this unit: first, design the intake to be easy-to-install, and second, offer the unit at a reasonable price.
The Racing Beat Power Pulse Cold Air Intake draws in cooler, denser air from the area above and ahead of the radiator. Cooler air is denser which means more oxygen to aid in the combustion process. As the cooler air passes through the air flow meter, the air meter senses the cooler air and richens the fuel mixture to balance the air/fuel ratio. in the combustion process. As the cooler air passes through the air flow meter, the air meter senses the cooler air and richens the fuel mixture to balance the air/fuel ratio. The beneficial forced air effect increases with the speed of the vehicle.
The Racing Beat Power Pulse Cold Air Intake is manufactured from vacuum formed ABS plastic. The intake is secured to the chassis (not the engine) to eliminate excessive flexing and the possibility of cracking. Unlike other intake systems, our easy-to-install, bolt-on design eliminates the need to reposition engine cooling and electrical system components. Installation can be accomplished quickly using only simple tools. The intake unit is supplied with all necessary mounting hardware and fully illustrated installation instructions. The stock air filter element is retained and is readily accessible for servicing. Replacement high-flow aftermarket air filter elements are also available for this application. Of course everyone wants to know horsepower gains provided by these air intakes! Two independent test sessions have yielded the following results:
Miata Magazine session: 1996 Miata
Baseline - Max Power 104.1, Max torque 98.4
With Air Intake - Max Power 108.1, Max Torque 102.3
Sport Compact Car Magazine (January 2000): 1995 Miata
"It (the Cold Air Intake) yielded a maximum power gain of 4.4 at 4700 rpm and showed a 1.2 hp improvement in peak output. It also showed a maximum torque gain of 4.9 lb-ft at 4700 rpm while peak torque was increased 2.7 lb-ft."
Note: Both of these test sessions were conducted on two separate Dyno Jet chassis dynos. Since these tests were performed on a static dyno, any additional benefit of the forced-air design of this intake could not be measured.
The Power Pulse Cold Air Intake has passed the California emissions testing test requirements. Each kit includes a CARB compliance decal that identifies the Executive Order number associated with this intake. If you need a decal for a Racing Beat intake purchased prior to August 1999, contact us for more information.

K&N Filter Replacement Filter
1990-97 Miata
The K&N Air Filter Element interchanges exactly with the stock paper element. This filter is constructed with cotton gauze material sandwiched between fine wire screening. This beautifully crafted filter is pre-oiled and ready for installation. This K&N filter comes with a Million Mile Warranty, and is certified to be street legal. K&N has done an outstanding job of supplying fully detailed instructions, a service record decal, and a warranty/registration card.
By using the Recharger Kit, the filter can be cleaned, re-oiled, and reused almost indefinitely. This K&N Air Filter Element provides better air flow when dirty than either the stock paper element or the Foam Air Filter Element.
Shown above with the optional K&N Filter Recharger Kit.
