Agree use "direct push" its free - and you just need a windows mobile smart phone - thats all I use
Direct Push Activesync.
On the Server - Pre Requisites.
1. Install Exchange SP2
2. Start > All Programs > Microsoft Exchange > System Manger.
3. Expand GLobal Settings > Mbile Services.
4. Right CLick > Properties.
5. Everything should be ticked! > Apply > OK
6. Start > Run > dsa.msc {enter}
7. Locate the user object > Right CLick > Properties > Exchange Features.
8. Ensure Outlook Mobile Access, Unser Initiated Syncronisation, and Up-to-date Notification are enabled.
9. Set up OWA for https and test externally.
On the Server - Export the Certificate from your CA/Exchange.
Assuming you are going to use YOUR OWN certificate you need to get the "Root Certificate"
Note: if you view the certificate on the certificate under ISSUED TO it should display the same name as
the user will type into the Mobile Device e.g.
Issued to: mail.domain.co.uk
1. Connect to the CA that is http://IP_of_CA_Server/certsrv
2. Select "Download a CA certificate, certificate chain, or CRL".
3. Select "Download CA Certificate".
4. Save the filename.cer file somewhere.
On The Device - Import the Certificate.
1. Copy the certificate you Expoerted above to the Mobile device.
2. Double CLick the Cetificate and install it as a trusted CA root.
On The Device - Set up Activesync.
1. Active Sync > Menu > Add Server source.
2. Type in the servername e.g server1.mydomain.co.uk
3. Tick "This Server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection.
4. Click Next > Enter your username username password and domain name, ensure "Save Password" is ticked.
5. Next > Select what you want to sync > Finish.
6. Handheld will syncronise.
job done costs nothing - mail and calendering goes remote for nothing
