MySQLDriverCS vs ByteFX vs SqlClient
Recently I've been writting PHP & ASP.NET web applications using MySQL as the database. I was trying to decide which API to use for the .NET development. There are two free API's listed on mysql.com. ( MySQLDriverCS & ByteFX ) I decided to test them and post the results. For this test I used a table named Contacts. This table had 73,400 rows of data. The query I executed was: SELECT FirstName FROM Contacts I ran this test 10 times to get an average for each API. Each API has its own MySQL command and reader object. I created a command and executed the reader. The reader looped through each record and assigned the value of FirstName to a string variable. While I was at it, I decided to also test the same thing with ASP.NET/MSSQL2k, and then with PHP/MySQL. All testing was done on a P3, 1.2GHZ box with 512MB of memory. I'm not sure that the PHP/MySQL test was fair since PHP doesn't exactly have a 'reader' object, but I thought it was worth running.
