J'ai voulu upgradé ma Mandrake 8.0 vers 9.0, et Xfree ne marche plus (entre autres choses...)

Ma carte vidéo est une Nvidia Xentor 16 TNT2.

est ce que tu as recompilé tes drivers Nvidia pour le nouveau noyau/XFree ?

ou installé ceux pour MDK 9 ?

si la réponse est non, cherche pas + loin.

NB : ton XF86config a l'air bon.

Ok, mais les as tu recompilé après avoir installé le nouveau XFree ? ou tu as installé ceux que tu avais compilé pour la 8.0 ?

src.rpm = sources

soit tu compiles ces rpm sources, soit tu installes directement des binaires.

Je te conseille de prendre les derniers src.rpm de la série 33.XX (les 40XX sont très lents en 2D sous Gnome), de les recompiler, et d'installer les ix86.rpm qui découleront de ta recompilation

rpm -Uvh /usr/src/RPM/RPMS/i686/NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-2960.i686.rpm

J'ai :
"package NVIDIA_kernel-1.0.2802 is already installed"

C'est normal?

tu fais ça dans un terminal sous X non ?

et ben il va falloir l'arrêter : telinit 3

tu va te retrouver en ligne de commande et là, il ne devrait plus te poser de pb.

pour revenir au mode graphique : telinit 5

Cette fois tu as bien pris les paquets pour la 9, pas pour la 8 ?
Quel kernel tu as ? la 9.0 a eu une update kernel.

Le mieux est de prendre les drivers .tgz et de recompiler comme expliqué dans le site de Dark Schneider. Tu as besoin des sources de ton kernel en cours.

moi j'avais fait rpm --rebuil les2machins.src.rpm, puis g installé les rpm (le kernel puis le glx), apres un ptit coup d'oeil dans xf86config-4 pour voir si driver=nvidia etc et ca roulaize

contentes toi de faire ca:

- recuperer les paquets precompiles pour mandrake 9.0
- tu installes les deux, en forcant.

tu fais un depmod -a && modprobe nvidia

tu lances xfree.

ca doit partir du premier coup avec ca.
