@Carlos @Fennec The testers can share their impressions about M2 during the meetup, just like other backers. Issue reports may become outdated very quickly, thus the detailed reviews should based on the final product.

Different from the Kickstarter updates, this topic is to collect and address your current questions in one place. New questions will be added to the list, following with our answers.
 
Thanks to the testers, we have resolved 90% of the identified hardware and software issues and are keep moving with the debugging. The team is conducting comparative testing between M1 and M2 to make sure those issues are resolved.
 
The testing and production plan goes as planned. The next step is to learn what the backers have to say in the backer meetups, and some of the testers give a closer look of the M2 units.
 
A new Kickstarter update is coming soon with more information about the backer meetups.
 
1. Is M2 the final version?  
M2 is the joint effort of the team and M1 testers. It will be less likely for us to make major changes.
 
2. Will you demo both 5K and 8K in the backer meetup?  
Yes
 
3. Wish everyone gets the headset before Christmas?  
90% possibility we will ship most of the headsets to backers before Christmas.
 
4. The progress of the base stations?  
Estimated to have the first batch ready by Oct.
 
5. The progress of 8K X?  
We will update you the progress of X on Oct.
 
6. The progress of controllers?  
The team is working on the structure design.
 
7. The progress of the eye tracking module?  
The team is working on the industrial design of the module.
 
8. Does 8K have FCC/CE certification?  
Yes we will have the certifications ready before shipping.
 
9. Custom
We are trying to ship batches of our current products to test if there will be issues.
 
10. Can we control the color and brightness of the LED?  
Yes, let us know the patterns in your mind.
 
11. Can we utilize the eye-tracking technology to track the eye movements to identify the best distortion algorithm?  
The team is considering the possibility as well and evaluating the feasibility.
 
12. When will you ship M2 to testers?  
We have finished the first batch for internal testing.  
The M2 testing units will be ready this and next week.
 
13. The mass production progress?  
As mentioned in the previous update, we are producing M2 as planned. Backer first, and our business clients will take the units left.
 
14. The performance?  
Thanks to the responses from backers, we will take your specs and plans into consideration while testing 5K and 8K.  
For backers own graphics cards lower than 1080, we would recommend 5K at the moment.  
With the future software iterations, we plan to detect your specs and recommend settings to you.
 
15. Any breakthrough?  
We made progress in distortion algorithm and will keep improving with software versions.  
Tracking improved on M2 as well.
 
16. The purpose of the Meetup?  
Demo the potential of 8K with recommended graphics cards and games;

8K will benefit a lot from the 20XX gpus, not only in terms of better performance. Pimax team is very excited about the upcoming generation and they have good reasons to do so
 
Having that said, I dont think VirtualLink will improve the Pimax 8K in any way. The current m-versions of the 8K have already now a quite thin single cord almost all the way to the PC where it spits in USB, DP and external power.

At this point none of us testers have even seen the m2 and wont be able to before the Berlin meeting. Basically we know nothing about the m2.
 
And no, no green light has been given to m1.
 
Secondly, the NDA prevents us from talking about the m1, and of course also our experience about m2.
 
So during the Berlin meeting, anyone who tests the m2 can speak freely about it - except for us, the testers

As what the ScreenDoorEffect (SDE) is conderned: You can hardly make out any. The RGB Stripe matrix panel technology is just the way to go. Not just in terms of SDE but also in terms of color accuracy. This are the sharpest and best visuals I have ever seen in a headset, and I have quite seen a few. I applaud StarVR not to have joined the resolution wars but instead focused on developing the best lenses and the best panel for the device.

Breaking Pimax 8k News: Pimax introduces a new version of the Pimax 5k, is called Pimax 5k Plus
 
Improved panel, has higher PPI because of panel size, also has higher sharpness (still LCD panel)
In retail, both versions will be sold, original 5k and 5k plus
5k plus will be more expensive
Current 5k backers will directly receive 5k plus without having to pay extra
 
8k users can switch to 5k plus. Difference of 100k USD can be spent on Pimax accessories.
 
Pimax 8k/5k plus shipping to backers will start end of September, goal: all backers shall receive their devices before Xmas ( chance of this happening 90percent)
 
People who missed Kickstarter: Preorders start in October, ships after last backer has received their headset. Targeted shipping start: Early 2019
 
Controllers can be tried end of year. First developer version gonna ship Q1 2019, goes out to backers Q2 2019.

Hi, welcome to the pimax backer meetup. I am right now in the kitchen because I just needed some silence. Because now I have some breaking news for you. Of course, Martin, Sebastian and me sat together, yesterday. We tried to convince Robin and we succeded: We get the permission to write a complete and detailed review about the pimax m2 on september 16, and also about the 5k.
 
I will... It's awesome. The others can confirm that it was quite difficult to convince him and tell him "this is really good, you have to be truthful and all" And yes. It worked...
