Here we go boys and girls, now the real tournament starts. The first match of the round of 16! Brazil and Chile, two teams from South America including the hosts. The pressure will be on for a home victory, but Chile will prove to be exceedingly tough opponents. I know it's an old football cliche, but it really could go either way.
Both teams are seemingly at full strength. Vidal, their talisman, returns for Chile after a cheeky rest. Scolari opts to play Fernandinho instead of Paulinho, a good move IMO.
Scolari faces the one team he didn't want to. Chile have been impressive so far in the tournament, and Brazil are the hosts. Either way an upset is on the cards, Brazil knocked out early or a great team in Chile have to go home.
/u/Al-Dabbagh summed it up nicely "This will be a very interesting game. Four South Americans going at it today and the winners will meet in the quarter finals. I honestly don't know what to expect. Brazil certainly has the best squad, but haven't really been convincing in the group stage. Hopefully they step it up in the knockout stage so we can see some amazing football clashes. Having said that, screw you Brazil and let's go Chile!"
As aforementioned the match could go either way, I think Chile will be looking to employ the same tactics against Netherlands, more of an emphasis on solid defence and press high, play in the opponents half, because both Oranje and Brazil have the ability for quick and incisive counter-attacks. Their (Chile) game plan may have worked if it wasn't for the brilliance of Robben. Scolari himself must be wary of Chile, who have excellent attacking players, namely sexy Sanchez and vital Vargas.
Let's do this!
National Anthem time! This is going to be intense.....
First up, Chile. Some Brazil fans are booing. Hands on hearts for the men in red. Nice upbeat tune. Strong voices, Vidal practically shouting. Crowd loving it. Manager looks focused as ever. Then the best bit, the music stops, the fans continue to sing, but are utterly drowned out by the Brazil boos. The players carry on singing, unaffected. The boos are deafening.
Now, the hosts, Brazil. Starts with cheers unsurprisingly. Arms round each others shoulders. Very loud as anticipated. No one is shying away like I was from Karaoke last night. Music stops and the voices can still be heard. Some exquisite women are expertly spotted by the cameramen. David Luiz looking exceptionally emotional as per usual.
In the mood yet?
