Pre-setup instructions
If you plan to install the i.Share client software on this computer (to let it use the Internet connection on another computer), close this window and proceed with Setup.
Important: If this computer has an Internet connection and you want it to be your i.Share server, you must complete the following steps to make sure this computer is configured to use the TCP/IP stack and Dial-Up Networking for Window 95/98 or Windows NT 4.0. Follow the instructions indicated by your answers to these two questions:
1. Does this computer have a direct (non-modem) connection to the Internet?
If you want to use this computer as an i.Share server and it has a direct connection to the Internet, you can close this Help window and continue with i.Share Setup.
2. Has this computer ever connected to the Internet using a modem?
Yes - If you want to use this computer as an i.Share server and you have previously used a modem on this computer to connect to the Internet, you only need to perform the steps in Part 4. Depending on which platform this computer is using, click either Part 4 for Windows NT 4.0, Part 4 for Windows 2000, or Part 4 for Windows 95/98.
No - If you want to use this computer as an i.Share server but you have never connected it to the Internet via modem, you must perform the steps in Parts 1 - 4. These steps ensure that your server computer will be properly set up to use i.Share. Depending on which platform this computer is using, click either Part 1 for Windows NT 4.0, Part 1 for Windows 2000 or Part 1 for Windows 95/98.
Tips
- If you receive a Severe error message during i.Share Setup and you are running on Windows 98, click Start, click Run, type sfc and then click OK.
