Introduction
------------
 
  The DivX(tm) codec 5.0 is the latest and greatest release of DivX,
  the best compression technology for high-resolution movies.  The DivX
  codec (short for COmpression-DECompression) is becoming the standard
  for high quality video over IP networks because it hits the sweet spot
  between superior visual quality and small file size. With a broadband
  connection, you can download a full-length feature film in the time it
  takes to have a pizza delivered!
   
 
Installation instructions
-------------------------
 
  To install the DivX codec, you should follow the following simple steps:
 
  1. Copy the installer program (DivX5Bundle.exe) to a location on  
     your hard drive (e.g., C:\temp).  
  2. Run the installer program by double-clicking on the
     DivX5Bundle.exe icon.  
  3. Follow the instructions of the installer program to install the
     DivX Codec.  
  4. Done! The DivX software should be installed in your Systems directory.  
   
  **What files are installed?**: The DivX Codec installer will install the
  following files on your system:
   
* divx.dll   (DivX Codec)  
* divxdec.ax  (DivX Decoder Filter)  
* mp4fil32.dll  (MPEG-4 Read/Write Filter)
* README.txt  (This README file.)
* License.txt  (License agreement for the software.)
* DivX Help GUide (Internet Shortcut to DivX.com help site)
   
  **Uninstalling the DivX Codec**: To remove the DivX Codec from your
  system, you should use the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel in
  Windows. To this by selecting "Start -> Settings -> Control Panel ->
  Add/Remove Programs" from the Windows Start menu. In the listbox that
  is presented to you, choose "DivX 5.0 Bundle" and click "remove."
 
 
What's new in this version
--------------------------
 
  **Features of DivX 5.0**
 
* Compatibility with all versions of DivX video content. DivX 5.0 can play
  every version of DivX video ever created, from prior to 3.11 alpha to the
  brand new DivX Pro 5.0.
 
* AMD optimizations. Version 5.0 is fully optimized for AMD Athlon and Athlon
  XP processors.
 
* Faster two-pass encoding. The second pass of two-pass encoding is now up to
  30% faster than DivX 4.12. The second pass makes use of motion vector
  information calculated by the first pass.
 
* Smaller file sizes. DivX 5.0 is capable of producing equivalent visual
  quality at up to 15-20% smaller file sizes, when compared to DivX 4.12. File
  size savings will vary depending upon the nature of the video content.
 
* MPEG-4 compatibility. DivX 5.0 can decode MPEG-4 Simple Profile, MPEG-4
  Advanced Simple Profile, and H.263 video (all levels). It is also able to
  encode fully MPEG-4 Simple Profile compliant video (ISO/IEC 14496-2).
 
* DivX(tm) MPEG-4 file format. Full support (encoding and decoding) for the brand
  new MPEG-4 based file format that replaces the venerable AVI file format.
 
* Advanced support for existing encoding applications. All the new features of
  DivX 5.0 work in todayÕs existing content creation and encoding applications
  without requiring new versions of the applications.
 
* Reusable encoding profiles. Version 5.0 allows you to save profiles of
  encoding settings and reuse them over and over. You can also trade encoding
  profiles with other users.
 
* Quick configuration CLI. DivX 5.0 includes a command line interface for
  advanced users.
 
* Patent-pending rate control algorithm. This new version of DivX introduces a
  new and improved rate control algorithm, improving visual quality.
 
* Improved encoding algorithms. Includes special encoding algorithms that are
  specifically tuned to pans, fades, zooms, explosions, etc., improving quality
  and increasing compression.
 
* Psychovisual modeling. Support for advanced psychovisual modeling during
  encoding, a technique that takes into account knowledge about how the Human
  Visual System (HVS) works to compress moving video images into much smaller
  sizes without a loss of video quality.
 
* Universal architecture. The universal VfW/ACM/QT architecture of DivX makes
  it possible to playback exactly the same file on a variety of different
  operating systems and applications.
 
* Scalable. Work on a wide range of video bitrates, from 28 Kbps to 9 Mbps,
  depending upon your encoding needs.
 
* New DivX Player 2.0 Alpha. A brand new DivX Player application, complete
  with MPEG-4 file format support and a spiffy new skin system, is ready for

Known Issues
------------
 
* Psychovisual modeling may cause artifacting in certain types of video
  content.  This issue will be addressed in the next release.
 
* Protecting logs not functional.  Be sure to rename your two pass logs to
  prevent them from being overwritten if you would like to reuse them.
 
* Resizing may cause errors.
 
* Save setting to a file is not functional.  Settings can be saved for future
  reuse only locally to the registry.  If you would like to share these settings
  easily, just use your "command line" string.

je suis curieux de voire la reaction de divxnetworks lorsque leur version pro (payante) sera distribuée gratuitement un peu partout..
 
enfin on la connais, il s'en batterons les c....s du moment que des contracts soient signé avec des acteurs payant comme Blizzard (division de vivendi universal, maitre du monde).
 
interessant cependant de voire que vivendi justement pourait porter plaine contre divxnetworks conformement a leur interpretation du DMCA. cf blizzard vs fsgs

Le lien est sur Doom9.org, mais apparemment, même si la version pro est gratuite, elle impose à l'utilisateur une sorte de bande de publicité sur le bureau de Windows dès qu'on utilise le codec, chelou, je sens que ça va m'énerver...
