Ce sont des outils de "desktop search", un peu comme de la ligne de commande mais en mieux :o

 

En gros, le principe c'est:

  • Tu appuies sur une combinaison de touches (ALT+SPC par défaut pour Spotlight ou AppRocket, Command + SPC pour QuickSilver, ...)
  • Tu tapes une série de lettres
  • Le logiciel te fournit une série de matches (exécutables, raccourcis, documents) (*)
  • Quand tu as trouvé le truc que tu cherches, tu appuies sur ENTER pour le lancer


Le but principal est de pouvoir lancer des applications très rapidement sans utiliser sa souris (par exemple sur mon mac il me suffit de taper "FF" pour lancer firefox ou "E" pour emacs, ou "text" pour TextWrangler, ...)

 

*: la recherche se fait habituellement sur le nom du document/exécutable + potentiellement son contenu + des heuristiques + les recherches précédentes (par exemple si en tapant "xsl" tu exécutes 9 fois sur 10 XSLTProcessor et 1 fois sur 10 "XSLTester" le logiciel va rapidement présenter XSLTProcessor en match principal et XSLTester en secondaire)

 

edit: tiens, une petite démo de QS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5c [...] ed&search= (sachant que QS est probablement le logiciel de desktop search le plus impressionnant qui existe, les autres sont habituellement soit beaucoup moins fonctionnels soit beaucoup plus complexes, la pluspart des logiciels de DS sont limités aux 30 premières secondes: la recherche de documents/exécutables)

il font aussi un client desktop http://www.exalead.fr/search/desktop
 
c'est ce que j'utilise au taf , j'aime bien la factilite pour poser des filtres sur la date, le chemin, le type de fichier, l'auteur , ....

edit: remarque chez Acronis aussi, mais TrueImage Workstation n'est qu'à $80 donc ça fait notablement moins mal au cul (au cour du jour, ça donne 60€ [:dawa]) :o

 

eedit: Ptin Araxis ces grands malades, par défaut la comparaison de répertoire compare les fichiers des répertoires bit à bit, y compris une comparaison avec un répertoire FTP [:pingouino]

 

Mange tes 15 jours pour comparer 2 répertoires [:pingouino]

Ce qui est bien avec 4chan, c'est que c'est d'un niveau constant. Là, je vais dessus, je clique sur le board b, et le top-thread c'est: "post some fucking jb" (jb=jailbait). Avec les images qui vont bien.  
Typiquement le genre de forum que je devrais aller fréquenter depuis le travail...

Il me semble que le résumé de Knuth c'est que les GOTO sont utilisables tant qu'on ne remonte pas dans le flux de code et qu'on ne saute pas brutalement entre plusieurs scopes.
