Setting Up for rtre
You now have to set up 3ds max5 or VIZ 4 for calculating a lighting solution and rendering so that you can compare the render to what you see in rtre. First you have to set up the Radiosity settings as follows:
Open the Rendering > Radiosity
panel. (Advance Lighting in max 5).
Set the Initial Quality to 65%, a moderate setting for starters.
Set the Filtering to 4. The filtering is used to blend the solution, it enables the use of smaller meshes while avoiding dirty spots, Its basically a quick fix that is very useful.
Set the Radiosity Meshing Parameters to off. We dont use this built-in function but manually add mesh for refined lighting by using a modifier later on.
In the Rendering Parameters drop down, click Re-Use Direct Illumination from Radiosity Solution.
Next you'll set up the Environment settings to turn off any exposure controls as follows:-
Go to the Rendering > Environment panel.
Set the Ambient light to Black, RGB = (0,0,0 ).
Set the Exposure Control to <no exposure control>. rtre basically ignores any of these features, so to compare a render with rtre you should turn all these render functions off.
Next you need to set up the Rendering settings.
Go to the Rendering > Render... panel.
Turn on Use Radiosity. (Use Advance Lighting in max 5).
Turn on Compute Radiosity when Required. This is useful for rendering and calculating a new solution with one hit.
Turn Mapping off. It is much easier to look at lighting solutions at first without any textures, adjustments can be made at a later time to adjust for any material anomalies.
