Removal of CD Key requirement for Windows 2000
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Getting Started
This document describes how to alter the Windows 2000 installation program such that you are never prompted for a CD Key. You will need working Windows 2000 source files (the \i386 directory).
Instructions
1. Find the setupp.ini file in the \i386 directory. Since you will be editing this file, it cannot reside on a CD. If necessary, copy the \i386 directory to your HD. Once you have completed the entire procedure, you can then install from the HD or burn again to CD.
2. Change the file properties of setupp.ini such that it is not read-only. In Windows, right click on the file and choose properties, then uncheck the Read-only box.
3. Open the file for editing by double clicking it. It should only be three lines. Edit the last line so that it reads Pid=51873270. The ExtraData line is, while necessary, irrelevant. Leave it as it is.
4. Save the file and close it. Change the properties so that it is read-only again. You may now install normally but you will not be prompted for a CD Key.
