How do I uninstall the other drivers from my system?
Answer by Steve
1. Remove ATI Display Driver using Add/Remove from Control Panel which will reboot your computer.
2. In Display Properties\Settings\Advanced\Adapter, select 'Change Adapter', then select the option to specify from a list, followed by the specify from 'all'. Select 'Standard PCI VGA Adapter'.
3. Monitor probably looks quite different now (60Hz, 640x480x8).
4. Reboot and go in to Safe-Mode by either hitting F5, with win98 hold ctrl for options.
5. DELETE all files starting with "ATI" from the following locations: \windows\system, \windows\system32\drivers, \windows\inf\other.
5.1 Open the windows registry and go to ..\Software\ATI Technologies and remove the keys under it as well.
6. Reboot.
7. Proceed with installation of ATI drivers. If you're installing older drivers over newer ones and you get a warning about an older file being copied over a newer one, OVERWRITE the NEWER files (these will only be the ATR*.* files).
8. Reboot.
