Windows 2000 and Windows XP maintain a custom Start menu order.
I prefer my menus to be sorted alphabetically, but I am constantly forgetting to right-click on an object in the Start menu and press Sort by Name.
To resolve this problem:
1. Create a SMOrder.reg file, to delete the MenuOrder key at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer. SMOrder.reg contains:
REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder]
2. Place a Minimized shortcut to %SystemRoot%\regedit.exe /s <Path>\SMOrder.reg in your Startup folder.
Every time you logon, the MenuOrder key will be deleted.
