j'ai installe linux debian woody sur mon portable hp xe 4500, mais , au redemarrage, j'ai un message "kernel panic, try to kill idle...", et ca reste bloque.. MAis j'arrive a demarrer avec une disquette.  
Qui a une idee? Merci pour d'avance pour votre aide

  5. Kernel panic: Attempted to kill the idle task!

  9. Then the computer freezes. What do I do?Some users had reported this problem.  In most cases, they are using
  10. Laptops and the error happens when the PCMCIA service is started.
  12. If this is your case, do the following:
  14. 1) Open the Configuration Utility.
  15. 2) Click on Advanced.
  16. 3) Check the box "Disable PCMCIA" and click ok.
  17. 4) Finish the Configuration Utility.
  18. 5) Restart WinLinux.
  19. This will let you start WinLinux 2001 without problems. Please don't use the
  20. Desktop icon to start WinLInux.
  21. 6) Once in WinLinux 2001, log as root.
  22. 7) Edit the file /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia, adding the folloiwng changes:
  24. PCMCIA=yes
  25. ALLOW BOOT
  26. PCIC=i82365
  27. PCIC_OPTS=  #if you have something written here, delete it.
  28. CORE_OPTS=
  30. 8) Save the file and exit.
  31. 9) On a terminal window, type "/etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia start" without the
  32. quotes and press enter.
  33. 10) If no error message appears ("Starting pcmcia  [FAILED]" ), you're ready
  34. to use your pcmcia devices.
  36. Your problem should be fixed now.

tu dois avoir ce problème donc essaye en désactivant le démon PCMCIA en démarrant en mode rescue ou à partir de la disquette
