mirtouf HP va-t-il en profiter pour accroître sa marge ou bien cela permettra-t-il de diminuer substantiellement le prix du portable ?
Nelyot Tchagui Hewlett-Packard unveiled the Compaq nx5000, the first HP notebook to come with the Linux operating system preinstalled.

"Today's announcement of our expanding Linux customer base, new products and services, along with the world's first notebook PC pre-installed with Linux, marks our continued momentum in the Linux market and with our customers", said Martin Fink, vice president, Linux, HP.

Priced starting at approximately Rs. 53,000, the nx5000 ships with either an Intel Celeron or Pentium processor, a 15-inch screen, and between 30GB and 60GB of storage. The Linux version ships with Novell's Suse Linux 9.1 and OpenOffice, an open-source software program that includes word processing and other functions. It also has CD-R/RW support, DVD and media player, wireless and Bluetooth connectivity and full HP support and services. The laptop can also be purchased with Windows XP.

The nx5000 lasts up to four hours on a standard six-cell Lithium-ion battery or up to nine hours with the optional MultiBay battery.

Linux has had less success on the desktop even though it has proved popular as a server operating system. HP is one of the major laptop vendors to launch a non-Windows notebook and other vendors are expected to follow in the near future.
