je viens de mettre à jour mon noyau sous une Ubuntu 4.10, à l'aide d'un simple apt-get install kernel-image-2.6.10-1-386 (ça a mis Grub à jour tout seul).
Ce qui a résolu mon problème de PC qui ne s'éteignait pas, mais qui m'a donné de nouveaux problèmes ^^
Au démarrage, j'ai le nom du kernel qui s'affiche et ensuite j'ai une bonne 15aine de lignes me disant:
ERROR: Removing ***** (sis5531 ou sc1200 par exemple): Device or Resource busy
Puis, plus tard: (dmesg)

A mon avis, je ferais mieux d'installer la Ubuntu 5.4 directement
