Hi, I have a question concerning the pronunciation of these words : height and header. I am pretty sure height is pronunced "aille-te" and header "èdeur", but some teacher ( not an english teacher)said height is pronunced  "è i te" like the number eight, and header, "ideur".  :jap:

As far as "height" is concerned, the "h" has to be pronounced.
Pronuncing that word as "eight" isn't correct.

What you said about "height" and "header" is right, but, again, don't forget the "h".

Btw, you can check the pronunciations on wiktionary.

Both work for american english speakers (don't forget the "h" though)

The former is "officially" the right one, but you'll find out that a lot of native english speakers actually say both :D

BTW, I've got the feeling that the number eight is pronounced "aille-te" in Australia, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

You may be right, because they pronounce "aïe" at the end weekdays, like mondaïe, tuesdaïe etc...

sup dawgs,

i was just working on that cover letter and was wondering about how to express the idea of being eager to be exploited by some company ...

how would you say something like "je suis sur que je vais apprendre beaucoup durant ce stage tres interessant blablabla..."

"I strongly believe that...." ? "I am confident that..." ?

I dont like too much the first one and I tend to associate the second one with skills and I dont want to seem too presumptuous :o

as for any group both are correct it depends wether you consider "apple" as a group of individuals in which every single one counts or as an entity...try to replace it with " they" or " it" and see what you prefer.
in this case for example I would tend to say "they have released..."

you get good burgers in USA in local restaurants (eg where the local cops or the fans of the local sport team buy their lunches), not in fast food chains, where you just get fast junk food.
