apt-get install java : from now on, that's pretty much all you'll need to do to install the latest JRE/JDK on your Linux box1... Sun have just changed the way they license Java binaries to Linux (and OpenSolaris) distros. Debian, Ubuntu and Gentoo are already taking advantage of this, along with NexentaOS, BeleniX, and SchilliX on the OpenSolaris front.

où l'on voit que finalement, pour compléter mon 2è post, tout est lié (l'info 4 étant la conséquence des infos 3 et 1 : "depuis que l'éditeur a passé Solaris en open source, ses activités liées au système d'exploitation ont augmenté à un rythme que le patron de Sun n'avait jamais vu avant" )

ça veut dire qu'on peut mettre le sdk de chez sun dans une distribution sans leurs demander la permission ?

le sdk c'est la partie dev ?
Là il s'agit dans un 1er temps de Java SE 5 JDK si j'ai bien compris, qui serait par exemple dispo dans multiverse (Debian/ubuntu). Mais il est aussi question d'accords SUN/Debian-ubuntu... c'est donc que la nouvelle licence suffit pas ?
Ensuite il réflechissent à rendre le langage ouvert mais ils voudraient éviter les forks (et donc brider une des 4 libertés)

Sun's new CEO, Jonathan Schwartz, announced the new Distributor License for Java (DLJ) during his keynote at this year's JavaOne conference. This new license makes it possible for distributors, specifically Ubuntu and Debian, to ship Java packaged as part of the distribution. On top of that, Java has already been packaged up and is in multiverse ready for use.

Hmm, une license de type LGPL ou GPL n'embeterait pas tellement les entreprises je pense. C'est la JDK / JRE qui serait sous GPL pas le code de l'entreprise..
